After leaving School as Mechanical Technicians in 1982, those who had worked around
the Rolls Royce Derwent V turbojet didn't meet in recent years. The excuse (In my case I cannot call
it in another form...;-)) to join us again was to celebrate the
twenty years since
the day we Graduated and started the Rolls Royce for the first time. And a
simple telephone call to each one was enough to arrange the meeting.
Although I continue believing that twenty years are nothing, the least the passage
of time did was to extend our families:
Gabriel Donvito is married and has two daughters. And Norberto Galleotti (
classmate of ours) enlarged the family marrying with the sister of the wife of
Gabriel.
Gustavo Olivato is married and has a daughter and a son.
Guillermo Puma is married and has two daughters and a son.
Gustavo Vranjes (me) follows just as in 1982, without having formed a new family.
And all we continue with the luck of having to our parents with us like in the '82
With the more than adequate frame of the Laboratory of Machines and Motors, and
around the banner of the Mechanics Specialty; in the photo are seen standing
from left to right: Norberto Galleotti, Juan Bautista Olivato, Mary Olivato and
her granddaughter, Alicia Vranjes and Vladimiro Vranjes. Bent from left to right:
Karina Olivato, Gustavo Olivato and his son, Gustavo D. Vranjes, Guillermo Puma
and Gabriel Donvito.
After meeting and changing some words and visit the Superior Cycle of Mechanics
Workshops, we took advantage of the last minutes of daylight to start the
Marboré IIc and try to measure thrust for the first time.
We are running and ready to accelerate...
We continue raising the number of RPMs...
14 500 read RPMs and only 90kgf of thrust... Sincerely we expected
a quite greater reading, but later; when obtaining more information from the
manufacturer we would realize that the obtained readings were almost correct!.
Pity, because had we known it beforehand the celebration had been perfect.
End of the test and we just were tough about (we believe) was not in order...
Metallic frame of Derwent V with our "Hall of the fame": we registered each starting
in the inferior bar with its corresponding "pilot"...
Derwent V today. It is like 1983 with the exception of the involuntary loan of the
auxiliary starting pump for the Marboré IIc.
And the last shot for history until 2007. If I fail to find another good excuse
to arrange a new meeting...
