A) The electrical power station of the Otto Krause School constitutes a
unique opportunity to start and operate an installation of such
magnitude that allows the students to form a clear idea of the
real problems that they would find in their future professional
activity. Thus they will be able to develop concepts of:
1) Organization: forecast and strategy as opposed to the habitual ups and downs in the operation and service.
2) Workgroup: the success will depend on the coordination of the people affected to the operation and measurement in the different parts of the installation.
3) Maintenance: there are several equipments and installations whose
operation depends on their good condition, which demands
complex operations of repair and a constant work of maintenance to diminish
the necessity of them.
B) the main parts of the installation on which we will
concentrate the effort of measurement and calculation, are the boiler
and the steam machine reason why the basic objectives of the test are
to determine:
First, the efficiency of the boiler; that is the relation between the
energy that the water receives when crossing the boiler and the energy
that the consumed fuel gives off.
Second, the indicated horsepower of the steam machine; it is to say
the amount of mechanical energy that the steam gives to the pistons in
the time unit. Additional values will be taken that will allow a
study of the efficiency of the main parts of the installation, that is the
way in which each component takes advantage of the energy while delivering its task.
