March 17th of 1999: 100 years from the creation of Escuela Industrial de la Nación as an independent institution! (*)

100 years of Technical Teaching! With the signature of a decree in 1897 takes place a new kind of education quite different from the one given by the several craftmanship schools then existing in our country.

But it was necessary to begin from zero ground and with little background, reason why the new organization was born like a Department of the school where courses of Commerce , Public Accountants and of Handwritings Experts were developed; under the direction of Santiago H. Fitz Simon. At first, the initial plan did not reach the characteristics required to satisfy to the necessities which led to its creation.
It's duration was of four years and it had not division in specialties.
At the second year of its operation occurs the vacancy of Technical Director which is offered to the Engineer Otto Krause, who was an outstanding personality in the scope of national engineering at that time, being in addition among other things, Professor and Academic of our University. This person had in addition into his account, the experience of having visited in commissions the Old Continent, and having been able to know by himself the way in which education in France and Germany was imparted, for example. Thus he generates a new curriculum adapting to our necessities the methods that gave the best results in their countries of origin, the one which is approved in June 6th of 1898.

The new plan included six years, with specialization from the fourth, consisting of: Mechanics, Chemistry and Masonry Constructions; to which Electricity would be added later.

The importance of the change was demonstrated by the signature of the decree of March 17th of 1899, by which the Industrial School of the Nation was created, with Eng. Otto Krause as head (Principal).

The growing of the new kind of education quickly turned the facilities of the School of Commerce insufficient, which that leads us to...

Meanwhile, only 100 years later, with the background of a day not very propitious for a test (low atmospheric pressure, rain possibility...), the feast's acts began at 9:30 AM; preparing everything from two hours before to start the electrical power station of the Laboratory in the presence of authorities, parents, students and Graduated students.

Luckyly the event passed without any problem, becoming an authentic celebration with, for example, the interchange of opinions with Graduated students of year 1947 about the first repairs required by the installation, or the visit of Graduated students of year 1984, (see photo) who under the direction of Professor Lorenzo Lambruschini (For us the Great Absentee in this celebration) made identical tasks almost 40 years later; and the astonishment of children when they saw the installations accompanied by its parents.

We were honoured also with the presence of the German Embassy's Cultural Attaché and the Goethe's Institute Principal, whose in spite of their multiple occupations, were very interested in the operation of the facilities and with whom we had several minutes of friendly dialogue.

In sum, which we thought to celebrate (100 years) we believe was left pale in front to the encounter of several generations reunited around a single word:

KRAUSE.
